Do you have templates for clinical hypnotherapy, sensorimotor therapy, or somatic therapy? NovoNote has a wide library of mental health-focused templates covering many modalities — including Schema therapy, EMDR, play therapy, IFS, Couples therapy, and assessment-based templates like the ADHD clinical interview, MIGDAS, DIVA, and ADOS. You can also customise any existing template or create your own. Browse the full list of NovoNote templates.
Is NovoNote useful for psychiatrists? Absolutely — many psychiatrists are already using NovoNote, particularly for Medicare assessment reports and GP feedback. NovoNote includes templates specifically designed for psychiatrists, including medication review, general review, and first session templates.
How do I manage clients who are concerned about AI listening during a session? Most clients are comfortable with NovoNote once you explain what it does and what happens with their data. Many clients actually appreciate that their clinician can be fully present rather than taking notes. NovoPsych provides downloadable consent forms and fact sheets to help you explain the process clearly.
What modalities or therapeutic approaches is Just Ask NovoNote (JAN) trained in? JAN draws on a broad clinical knowledge base and is designed to work across a wide range of therapeutic modalities. When you use JAN within a specific session note, it uses the template you’ve chosen (e.g. CBT, Schema therapy, play therapy) to contextualise its responses — so the feedback you receive is shaped by the modality you’re working in.
Are public health services or hospitals using NovoNote? NovoPsych is used by over 75,000 clinicians and 900 practices. If you’re interested in bringing NovoNote to your organisation, see our Practice Plans and book a demo with Gina.
What about using NovoNote for psych-legal reports — is there a disclaimer example? NovoNote can generate letters and reports that are fully customisable, so you can add any disclaimers or caveats required for medico-legal work. You can edit the output like a Word document — adding, removing, or restructuring content to meet your specific requirements.
If we keep transcripts long-term, can they be subject to subpoena? As the clinician, you decide what goes into your clinical file. The default setting in NovoNote is for transcripts to be deleted after three months, which allows time to write discharge letters informed by the full context. If subpoenas are a concern, you can set transcripts to delete immediately after a note is created. The strong recommendation is to not include transcripts in your clinical file.
Can NovoNote be used internationally (e.g. Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore)? Yes — NovoNote has users across the globe, including New Zealand, Singapore, the United States, the UK, and Ireland. NovoNote aligns with AHPRA standards and Australian Privacy Principles, as well as HIPAA and GDPR compliance, so it meets both local and international benchmarks for handling sensitive health data. Learn more on our security page.
How does NovoNote keep my data secure? All data is encrypted both in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption protocols. For Australian users, data is stored in Australia on enterprise-grade infrastructure. Importantly, your client data is never used to train the AI model — identifiable information is removed before the AI processes anything. See our full security overview.
Can I upload Word document case notes into NovoNote? NovoNote supports uploading external files (such as Word documents and PDF reports and mental health care plans) when creating documents like discharge summaries or letters.
Does NovoNote support different languages? Language support is on the roadmap and an announcement is expected soon. If you’d like to be part of the trial for language support, email info@novopsych.com.
Can NovoNote sync with Cliniko? NovoNote is best used as a standalone tool. Once your note is ready, you can copy the text or download it as a PDF or Word document to paste into Cliniko or any other practice management system.
Can NovoNote be used with telehealth platforms like Zoom? Yes — NovoNote has a telehealth mode that lets you connect your telehealth browser’s audio directly with NovoNote. You can run your session as normal while NovoNote captures the conversation. Visit our NovoNote telehealth mode article for a step-by-step guide on using NovoNote with Zoom, Teams, Google Meet or other telehealth platform.
Is there a mobile option for NovoNote? NovoNote works on your mobile phone — just log in via your web browser. It works well on phones and iPads.

Thinking about trying NovoNote AI Scribe, but not sure where to start? This free, practical session will walk you through exactly how to begin using it in your practice.
In this demonstrator-led workshop, we’ll show you how to set up NovoNote and use it with your very first client. You’ll see how the AI captures session content and turns it into structured clinical notes, and how you can easily generate documents such as reports and letters directly from your session.
We’ll also introduce some of our newest features, including JAN (Just-Ask NovoNote) and document generation tools, and show you how they can help streamline your clinical workflow.
Throughout the session we’ll talk through common questions clinicians have when exploring AI-assisted documentation, and share practical tips on integrating NovoNote smoothly into your existing workflow – from session recording through to finished documentation.
This will be a hands-on demonstration, designed to help you feel confident using NovoNote in your day-to-day practice.
By the end of this session, you will understand how NovoNote can fit into your clinical workflow from session to final documentation, including:
Dr Ben Buchanan is a psychologist and co-founder of NovoPsych, a software platform designed to help mental health services use psychometric science to improve patient outcomes.
He is a strong advocate for routine outcome monitoring and emphasises that its central mission is to serve people – both clinicians and patients. Through his university lecturing and clinical supervision, he helps ground the next generation of psychologists in the scientist-practitioner model.
Dr Buchanan is also a researcher in treatment effectiveness and a leader in helping mental health services collect their own practice-based evidence.
Gina Steinberg is a psychologist and Clinical Liaison at NovoPsych, where she works closely with clinicians to support them in integrating digital tools into everyday clinical practice.
She helps practitioners implement assessment-based care and AI-supported documentation in a way that is practical, ethical, and aligned with real-world clinical workflows.
