Psychologist – Clinical AI Quality Specialist (NovoNote)
Apply below
Australia (Melbourne or Sydney preferred), hybrid or remote. Full-time or 0.8 FTE.
NovoPsych is a clinician-founded company building psychological assessment and AI documentation tools for mental health professionals. Since 2012, more than 75,000 clinicians across Australia, North America, the UK, Europe and New Zealand have used NovoPsych and our library of 150+ validated assessments to understand their clients and measure change. NovoNote, our AI scribe and clinical writing assistant, is now a fast growing part of the platform.
We are growing quickly, and small enough (around 30 people) that one person’s work changes the product clinicians use every day. You’ll join a high-calibre team of clinical psychologists, PhD psychometricians and software engineers who take research seriously and ship it into real clinical workflows.
The opportunity
We’re hiring a registered psychologist to make sure what NovoNote writes is clinically right, and to apply your clinical knowledge and expertise at scale through AI. One good fix from you improves every note that template produces, for every clinician who uses it.
This is a new role, and you’ll shape it. You’ll refine template and output issues as they come in, build proactive quality checks so problems are caught before clinicians see them, and help decide what AI should do next in clinical practice.
What you’ll do
- Think ahead about what clinicians need and want, and how AI can meet their documentation and clinical challenges.
- Evaluate AI output quality with quantitative methods, and use your clinical intuition to know when something isn’t right.
- Design and test the new clinical workflows and interventions AI makes possible: letters, reports, summaries and chat.
- Apply your expertise in psychological assessment so notes and reports use assessment results well.
- Build, fix and improve note templates across psychology, counselling, psychiatry, occupational therapy and social work.
- Review samples of AI-generated notes each week against a clinical quality rubric: accuracy, omissions, invented content, risk language and tone.
- Work with our AI engineers to turn what you find into test cases and evaluation sets, so every model or prompt change is checked before release.
- Spot patterns in clinician feedback and errors, and push fixes into the product.
- Be the escalation point for our Customer Success team on template and note-quality questions.
- Be a thought leader, advocate and educator for the responsible use of AI in clinical practice, through webinars, writing and conference talks.
You’ll thrive here if you…
- Are ambitious and want your clinical judgement to reach thousands of clinicians, not one caseload at a time.
- Think outside the box and enjoy problems nobody has solved yet.
- Are curious about how prompts and AI models behave. You don’t need to code, but you’re keen to learn.
- Hold a high bar for what good looks like in a clinical note, and can explain why in writing.
Selection criteria
- Registered psychologist with 5+ years of practice experience.
- Expertise in psychological assessment.
- High attention to detail and clear written clinical judgement.
- Comfort working directly with engineers and customer support.
- Experience with AI scribes or writing prompts.
- Board-approved supervisor status is an advantage.
Nice to have
- Experience with AI and agentic workflows.
- Quality assurance, clinical audit or documentation-standards experience.
- Spreadsheet or data skills for tracking quality over time.
What success looks like in your first 12 months
- Template escalations resolved within one business day.
- A clinical quality rubric in use, with a weekly audit sample and a tracked score.
- Thumbs-down rates and error-affected sessions trending down, with every model change checked against your test set before release.
- Define product directions and new workflows.
What we offer
- Work at the frontier of AI in mental health, with real influence over a product clinicians use around the world.
- A world-class research and clinical team. Meet the team.
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience and impact.
- Hybrid or remote flexibility, with autonomy and strong organisational support.
- Room to grow as NovoNote and our clinical AI team expand.
