Clinical Product Lead (Psychological Assessment)

Full time · Remote (Australia or USA) · Reports to the CEO

NovoPsych is a psychological assessment platform used by psychologists, psychiatrists and allied health clinicians to administer, score and interpret validated measures. We are building our own next generation of assessments: shorter, adaptive, openly published measures designed for digital administration.

We are looking for a psychologist with measurement expertise to own new assessments end to end: from deciding what is worth building, through item development, piloting, calibration and norming, to launch in the product and publication in the literature. You will work with our psychometrics team, product designers, engineers and marketing, and you will be the person accountable for each measure’s scientific quality and its success with clinicians.

What you’ll do

Decide what to build

  • Identify gaps in the assessment market using clinician demand, administration data from our platform, competitor analysis and the research literature.
  • Liaise with practitioners in the target area and conduct user interviews to understand what would be most helpful in their assessment work, and feed those findings into each measure’s design.
  • Write the case for each new measure: the clinical need, the construct and content map, intended users, development plan, sampling plan, budget, timeline and expected commercial value. Present it for executive approval.
  • Evaluate measures and ideas brought to us by external authors and researchers, and recommend whether to license, co-develop or build our own.

Develop and validate

  • Lead item development: construct definition, expert panels, item writing and review, cognitive interviewing and readability checks.
  • Design and run pilot and main-wave studies, including online panel samples (e.g. Prolific) and clinical samples recruited through our clinician network.
  • Plan and direct the data analyses: factor analysis and norming. Data analysis will be completed in conjunction with our export psychometrics team.
  • Write the technical documentation clinicians and reviewers rely on, and lead journal publication of each measure.

Ship it in the product

  • Turn each measure into a product: specify administration, scoring, adaptive logic and report content with our designers and engineers, and test that what ships matches the validated scoring.
  • Translate psychometric features into clinician benefits and work with marketing on positioning, launch content, webinars and white papers.
  • Track each measure after launch (uptake, completion, item-level behaviour) and run the improvement cycle.

Lead and represent

  • Run cross-functional project teams and keep schedules and budgets on track, raising risks early.
  • Supervise research assistants and data-collection staff as the team grows.
  • Represent NovoPsych at conferences, with academic collaborators and in peer-reviewed publications.

What success looks like in 12 months

  • New NovoPsych-authored measures live on the platform, each with a technical manual, published scoring and norms.
  • Manuscripts submitted to a peer-reviewed journal.
  • A prioritised assessment roadmap, with each candidate measure ranked on clinical need, development cost and expected use.
  • Clinicians actively using the new measures, measured by administrations per month and repeat use.

About you

Essential

  • PhD or DPsych in psychology (clinical, neuropsychology, counselling, educational and developmental, or quantitative).
  • Demonstrated test development experience: you have built, revised or validated at least one psychological measure.
  • Clinical experience in conducting assessment in the therapy room and history as a practising psychologist.
  • A publication record that includes psychometric or validation work, and strong scientific writing and editing (APA style).
  • Clear communicator who can explain a validity argument to an engineer, a marketer and a sceptical clinician.
  • Very comfortable with AI workflows.

Desirable

  • Experience with computerised adaptive testing, norming studies or measurement invariance.
  • Experience running a project with a budget and a schedule.
  • Experience in a test publisher, digital health company or product team.
  • Interest in using language models and natural-language data in assessment.
  • Supervision of research staff or postgraduate students.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary.
  • World-class psychometrics team.
  • Open science by default: NovoPsych-authored measures are often made freely available to individual clinicians and researchers, so your work gets used and cited.
  • Remote work, flexible hours, and conference attendance and travel budget.
  • A small team where your decisions matter.
